Becoming an author wasn’t just a spark of inspiration for Josh Shroyer. For decades, Josh consciously collected stories and photos of interesting tidbits and oddities he’s experienced in the woods and on the fireline. These stories have been logged in files, calendars, and photos throughout his career, waiting. Like a holdover fire, the right conditions were needed for these stories to be developed into a collection of books. The long Wyoming winters, in combination with what Josh’s wife Tammy calls “unsupervised time,” led Josh to contact Words Matter Publishing about his book idea. After sharing a few chapters, the publisher liked what she saw and the rest is history.

Each book is a collection of short stories, perfect for reading a chapter here and there or all in one sitting. The stories are real, with an easy conversational style that makes for an easy read. As one reviewer said, “His writing style is engaging and reminded me of authors like Patrick McManus and Norman Maclean—witty, reflective, and deeply personal.” Another said, “Shroyer has a unique writing style that brings the reader into the stories as if they were actually present.”
